You are extremely pleased. Your child has just returned from school and he is extremely glad at the popularity of your latest book. The famous children story that you had published last week has been read by most of his classmates. Going by the way things looks, it seems the entire school had downloaded it too. There is every reason for you to be happy, but you hold off the celebrations till you confirm a bit more.
You check out with some of your colleagues and they too have the same story to tell. Their kids too are stating the same fact that your book has become famous overnight in their school too.
It is Monday and you, the famous author of children fantasy books had released the latest in a line of novels on Saturday. You had spent a good sum of money in procuring the designs of the book and to make the same look authentic, you had requisitioned the services of some of the topmost painters and graphic designers of the country.
All this had cost you a hefty sum of money, but that was no problem. The moment your book sold over a thousand titles you would have broken even and after that it was profit all the way. Judging by the reports of the school kids, your book had sold more than 2000 copies and this alone was reason enough to host a party for your family.
You tell them all to prepare to go out for lunch and start getting prepared yourself. The last version of this novel too was a success but it had taken more than a week to notch up the thousand copies sales mark. This is the first time that you have launched the same on the net and that might be the reason for the quick sales. A phone call from your publisher puts a stop to all celebrations.
He too had heard about the phenomenal sales, but the figures on the server have a different story to tell. Only 200 copies have been sold. By the end of an investigative day you find out that most of the copies circulating on the net were fakes. You did not take the precaution to copy protect your prized book. It was just a matter of time before a pirate downloaded your book and copied it.
He would then upload illegal copies of the same on the net where anyone could download the same for free. If only you had used copy protection software, you would not have to see this day. They do not cost the earth and would have saved you thousands of Dollars.
